Running Pace Calculator

Frequently asked questions

How do you calculate running pace?
Pace = total time ÷ distance. Enter any two of pace, time, and distance to solve for the third in km or miles.
Can I use this for walking?
Yes. The same time–distance–pace relationships apply to walking; only the typical pace values change.
Does this account for hills or intervals?
No. It is a flat average conversion. Hills, wind, and interval structure change real effort even at the same average pace.

How the formulas work

Average pace is total time ÷ distance (min/km or min/mi). Finish time is pace × distance. Distance is time ÷ pace. Average speed is the inverse of pace: distance ÷ time (km/h or mph), or 60 ÷ pace-in-minutes.

Example: 5 km in 25:00 is a 5:00 /km pace (12 km/h). Race presets use standard road distances (5K, 10K, half marathon 21.0975 km / 13.1094 mi, marathon 42.195 km / 26.2188 mi). This is average pace only — it does not model hills, wind, fatigue, or interval structure, and it is not medical advice.
